Academy Amazons

Ok, I'm a bad blogger I admit it. It's been well over two months since the Academy Awards came and went and I definitely let the ball drop on that one. I'm just doing it now for self preservation or else I'm gonna feel bad that I didn't do all three of my awards show posts.

Just a reminder this is how my scoring system goes:

* = Correctly chose this dress
~ = Considered this dress/designer or collection
# = Absolutely dead wrong and did not anticipate

Let's play dress up

# I've always known of designer L'Wren Scott, who is a major celebrity favorite for red carpet but never really considered her for the Academy Awards and she cropped up several times. Here Amy Adams is rocking a royal blue sequined sheath in a way no-one else can. This is probably  one of my favorite looks of the evening. Winner winner.

~ Here Ashwarya Rai is comfortably classy in an couture Armani Prive dress. I really loved this collection and was happy to see several women representing for Giorgio

# Arguably my favorite look of the awards show season. Cate Blanchett often goes on daring fashion adventures and this one is super rewarding. Toting a lavender Givenchy couture dress from an oriental inspired collection Blanchett looks like the international beauty that she is and I'm so glad she wore something so unconventional.

# I love Florence Welch for being unpredictable and she was actually quite a big presence at the Spring Couture and Fall Ready-to-wear shows so I shouldn't be surprised to decided to go with a wonderfully tiered Valentino couture gown. I don't even know what color to call this... but I like it on her.

~ Hey, look who it is? Mandy Moore turned up in a lovely nude sequin tulle gown by Monique Lhuillier and I think she looked pretty ethereal.

~ Mila Kunis had a really good awards show run and this Elie Saab couture confection was a great finale. The lavender, lace and cut outs all work so well together and she's not overwhelmed by the amount of fabric. She looked lovely.

# Nicole Kidman totally surprised everyone by going 'vintage' in a couture Christian Dior dress from several seasons back. She's usually a very big devotee of L'Wren Scott. Some have likened her outfit to a napkin... I can see it. But I like it

# Penelope Cruz also donned L'Wren Scott for the evening. I love the explosion of multi-hued sequins that seem to radiate and make the dress seem in motion.

~ Annette Benning was also a really ridiculously well dressed nominee all awards season and she stunned in this Naeem Khan sequined gown. It was totally age-appropriate without the super plunging neckline while still understated elegant.

# And finally there was Reese Witherspoon in Armani Prive. It was a nice and simple choice and she looked beautiful, I guess I just wished she donned more color.
